Abby Waters was born in Flowood, Mississippi, grew up as a French-speaking honorary Cajun in Lafayette, and is an indulgent, life-loving 4th-generation New Orleanian. More easily said, she’s a child of the delta - a complex and muddy place; it is her home. With an early career in theater and as a teacher, her artistic training was first in physical theater having studied la methode Lecoq at the école Lassaad in Belgium. Academically, her work can be traced to her female-forged foundation in French language and literature studies from Barnard College where she received an award from the department for spearheading work in the creole literature of Louisiana. It wasn’t until she found her way behind the camera that she really looked to the film industry as a place to create action-based work. With a fellowship to pursue a masters of fine art at Temple University in filmmaking, her career as a director, writer, and producer really began. Abby flows between forms following the needs of the story and its message.
